Luis entered and noticed his mate pouting, her eyes looking watery.<\/p>\n
He moved closer, wrapped an arm around Deanna’s waist, and asked gently, “What’s wrong?”<\/p>\n
She bit her lip. “I want to hold the baby.”<\/p>\n
She sounded totally wronged.<\/p>\n
Luis paused for a second, then almost chuckled.<\/p>\n
He’d been worried something big had happened.<\/p>\n
It turned out that she just hadn’t had a chance to hold their daughter.<\/p>\n
So Luis looked at Kathryn. “Mom, let Deanna hold her.”<\/p>\n
Kathryn could refuse her daughter, but she couldn’t say no to him.<\/p>\n
After all, Luis wasn’t only the Alpha of the Mooncrown Pack anymore. He held absolute authority in Nordvale. That alone made her awed.<\/p>\n
Luis carefully took the baby from Kathryn and placed her into Deanna’s arms.<\/p>\n
The moment the baby settled against her, the hollow ache in Deanna’s chest disappeared. Her brows relaxed, and a soft, happy smile curved on her lips.<\/p>\n
Luis stayed close, one arm loosely around her, the other supporting her arms as she held the baby, like he was afraid she might be overwhelmed by the weight.<\/p>\n
His eyes were deep and steady, with a light flickering at the bottom, fixed completely on his two girls.<\/p>\n
Sunlight streamed in through the window, wrapping their little family in a warm, golden glow.<\/p>\n

Ever since the baby was born, she’d been coming by often to help, which meant she spent more time around Deanna and Luis.<\/p>\n

She rubbed her arms and said, “As long as you’re happy.” Then she quickly left.<\/p>\n
The room grew quiet again, sunlight still warm and steady.<\/p>\n
Luis looked at Deanna. “I met you in the middle of summer, too.”<\/p>\n
She lifted her face, eyes bright, playful, and smug. “So summer is an amazing day, right?”<\/p>\n
He leaned down and kissed her lips. “It’s only amazing because of you.”<\/p>\n
