The charity gala\u2014once polished and grand\u2014had turned into total chaos. People huddled in little knots, whispering like the room was on fire.<\/p>\n
The wolf guards moved in fast, herding the reporters out and pushing the crowd toward the exits to keep things from spiraling.<\/p>\n
Deanna knew she’d gotten what she came for tonight.<\/p>\n
She was ready to head out with Violet.<\/p>\n
They reached the parking lot and were about to get in.<\/p>\n
Then a figure came sprinting across the pavement.<\/p>\n
Victoria.<\/p>\n
She looked like a mother wolf gone rabid\u2014eyes bloodshot, face twisted, not a trace of her usual elegance left.<\/p>\n
“Deanna! You’re not leaving!” Victoria lunged closer. “This is your setup. You’re coming to the Werewolf Enforcement Bureau, and you’re telling them it’s all fake. Get Jenni released\u2014now.”<\/p>\n
Violet stepped in immediately, putting herself in front of Deanna.<\/p>\n
Violet let out a sharp laugh. “What’s there to \u2018explain’? Your daughter did it. She killed your nanny, and she locked Deanna to freeze inside that warehouse.”<\/p>\n
“Lies! You’re both liars! You’re making it up\u2014you’re framing her!”<\/p>\n
Victoria refused to believe a single word.<\/p>\n
Sure, her precious Jennifer might be spoiled\u2014but she was kind. She would never kill anyone.<\/p>\n
It had to be these jealous bitches\u2014jealous of Jennifer’s talent, trying to humiliate Bluestone Pack, setting her up on purpose.<\/p>\n
Victoria’s whole body shook when she pictured Jennifer dragged off on a murder charge.<\/p>\n

Four big wolf guards moved in at once, closing the distance like they meant to manhandle Deanna right there.<\/p>\n
Deanna’s POV:<\/p>\n
Violet tightened her grip on the wheel and shot me a look. “Since when do you have guards? And why does it feel like you’ve got a whole football team?”<\/p>\n
I leaned my head into my hand and watched the neon blur outside.<\/p>\n
“After I was hospitalized. Luis arranged it.”<\/p>\n
I’d assumed it would be two or three. I didn’t realize he’d stationed nearly ten men in the dark.<\/p>\n
The level of security was ridiculous\u2014like the Alpha King himself was the one that needed protection.<\/p>\n
Violet nodded slowly. “Your man is … intense.”<\/p>\n
She adjusted the wheel and kept going. “Also\u2014Jennifer’s in the Bureau now, but one recording isn’t much. With Bluestone Pack’s influence, they could slap a \u2018mental health’ excuse on her and probably get her out on bail.”<\/p>\n
Violet wasn’t wrong. Bluestone Pack would do whatever it took to save face.<\/p>\n
I’d already gotten Jennifer into custody. I wasn’t about to let this die halfway.<\/p>\n
