The guilt gnaws at me relentlessly.

Peggie messages me every single day, relentlessly persistent. She’s even shown up unannounced at my office multiple times, but I’ve refused to see her. I just can’t.

Meanwhile, Deanna and Luis are already together—I’m painfully aware of that. Yet, despite everything, a deep sense of betrayal lingers inside me, haunting my conscience.

Deanna’s Perspective:

I couldn’t help but glance upward for just a brief moment. Our eyes met—mine and Jake’s—for an instant that felt suspended in time.

But almost immediately, he averted his gaze and strode away without a word.

Robert shot a dark look at Violet, muttering under his breath, “Just wait and see.”

Then, without hesitation, he hurried after Jake.

Terence lingered behind us. When he finally reached my side, he spoke softly, “Sorry for interrupting.”

“It’s alright,” I replied, shaking my head gently.

Violet stared at the departing group, stunned. “What’s gotten into Jake? He didn’t even acknowledge you and just left?”

I hadn’t expected that either. I could only shake my head, uncertain of what to make of his behavior.

After our meal, Violet rushed off to catch her flight back to the movie set.

Once I said my farewells, I drove home alone. The night was quiet, the road nearly deserted. Then—Bang!

A sudden, deafening explosion rocked my car. The entire vehicle jolted violently, swerving out of control.

My heart nearly stopped. I slammed on the brakes, the tires screeching sharply as they fought against the asphalt. Finally, the car came to a shaky halt.

Still trembling, I pushed open the door and hurried outside to inspect the damage.

My stomach dropped when I saw the tires—completely covered in nails.

This was no accident. My car had passed inspection just last month. Something was terribly wrong.

I pulled out my phone, ready to call for a tow truck.

But as I lifted my head, I noticed two shadowy figures slowly approaching under the dim streetlights.

A wave of cold dread swept over me.

I turned instinctively to run, but only took two steps before a powerful hand clamped down on my shoulder.

Before I could react, a cloth was pressed hard against my mouth and nose.

A sickly, bitter scent invaded my lungs.

My eyes widened in shock. It was wolfsbane—diluted, but potent enough to paralyze me.

Suddenly, my head spun. The world blurred and tilted. My body went limp, as if every bone had melted away. Then everything faded to black—utter darkness. I lost consciousness.

When I finally opened my eyes again, darkness still surrounded me.

It took effort to focus. I was inside a medium-sized warehouse. Steel and wooden crates lined the walls. Near the heavy metal door stood an old wooden table and a worn chair.

My hands were tightly bound behind my back. My mouth was gagged with cloth. My limbs felt weak and jelly-like.

That moment brought back memories of the last time I’d been kidnapped.

A chill ran down my spine, and every hair on my body stood on end.

Suddenly, the iron door creaked open.

Blinding light flooded the room for a moment before the door slammed shut again.

A figure stepped inside. Dressed in black, he reeked of sweat and filth. His eyes gleamed cruelly from the shadows as he approached me.

I was slumped against the wall. The gag was gone, but my clothes were filthy, my hair disheveled, and my hands still tightly bound. I couldn’t move.

Something didn’t make sense.

From what the kidnappers said, they’d taken both Peggie and me.

But why did she look so fine while I was in this state?

“Deanna,” Peggie said, slowly approaching me. “Long time no see.”

I turned my head away, refusing to meet her gaze or speak.

She laughed coldly. “Stop pretending! You know every time you act like this, it makes me sick.”

Smack!

Her slap landed sharply across my cheek, burning with pain.

Before I could react, her hand tangled in my hair, yanking my head back until my scalp screamed.

Tears welled in my eyes as I was forced to look at her.

It felt like my scalp was about to be torn right off.

“Peggie, don’t touch me! Jake and I have already broken up!”

“Broken up?” she echoed, laughing bitterly. Then, to my shock, tears streamed down her face.

“You might have broken up with him, but he still hasn’t let you go. The only way to end this once and for all is for us to settle things completely.”

A terrible realization struck me like lightning.

“Do these rogues work for you?”

Her smile twisted into something cruel. “Deanna, the more you know, the sooner you’ll die. But don’t worry—I hate you too much to let you go that easily.”

["post-2205","chapter","type-chapter","status-publish","hentry
["GET
